Fue fundada el 22 de agosto de 1961 por 14 familias japonesas, constituyendo así una colonia, cumpliendo con un Convenio de Migración entre Japón y Paraguay, que en principio fue administrada por la Agencia de Cooperación Internacional del Japón (JICA). Con el tiempo además de ser ocupada por inmigrantes japoneses, también se sumaron europeos provenientes de Suiza, Francia, Italia, Alemania, etc.
